Kirin Lager Beer

IMG_4830

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Japan – Kirin Brewery Co., Ltd., Kyobashi, Tokyo

WHERE ACQUIRED: On-line

ADDITIONAL INFO: Bottom-Opened Tab Top

COMMENTS: The unique feature of this can is the bottom. The bottom features an illustration of how to open it from the top. There are instructions on the top: LIFT RING, PULL OPEN, however the wording is in English, not Japanese. The instructions on the bottom are clearly Japanese. My best guess is that this can was made for export to the US, and a US drinker/collector decided to open it from the bottom to preserve the visual integrity of the can, as is standard among can collectors. Printing opening instructions on a can was common practice in the early days of pull tabs, just to make sure there was no confusion as to how to get the beer out safely and easily. I have seen lots of those instructionals over the years, but this is my first bi-lingual example.
